ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
“You don’t need to go far to explore the world and learn new things. Going together and observing each other’s world is also a wonderful experience” – Nguyên Nguyễn, review from participating, creating, and presenting artworks with Hanoi Open.
Inspired by the road to her hometown in Thanh Tri, in the workshop-tour Hanoi Open No. 05, MYAN will lead you on an adventure through open urban and rural scenery, along with exploring tools for movement improvisation and composition under the guidance of Ly Nguyen, a contemporary dance and visual artist from Berlin, Germany.
In the workshop-tour Hanoi Open No. 05: Hữu Hồng – free movements, we will travel through cultural and historic sites from Giải Phóng street to communes of Thanh Liệt, Yên Mỹ, Ngũ Hiệp, Duyên Hà, running along the dyke on the right bank of the Red River, Yên Sở lake…. Meanwhile, we will incorporate our immediate environment (public) with the context of the moving body (personal). The goal is to relax the body and connect with the environment, while building a sense of trust and understanding, from which we can then let composition and choreography emerge.
As we develop our own artistic language through each section and stop of the tour, we will introduce some foundational camera work to expand the interaction with our surroundings. Exploring new perspectives on how we relate to our environment, we will be able to share through our individual video works. Hanoi Open No.5 is for anyone interested in art and culture, moving-curious as well as professionals, looking to access dance and movement from a playful and self-explorative angle.
ABOUT THE GUEST ARTIST
Ly Nguyen (1993, GER) is a contemporary dancer, interdisciplinary performance artist, and visual artist based in Berlin, Germany.
She studied Theater Science (B.A.) at Leipzig University and graduated from Die Etage – School for Performing and Visual Arts in Berlin in 2021.
She is carefully threading her Western contemporary dance practice with influences of folk dance, somatic approaches, Butoh, and Eastern mythology and philosophies. Her everlasting penchant are ambient works, which gently challenge the viewer to immerse themselves through active observation, mindfulness and slowing down – an invitation to escape the fast-pace of today’s digital and global culture.
Her projects have been supported by Expedition Metropolis Berlin, Tanzfaktur Cologne, and Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
“Der Magnolienbaum” (2023), “Push & Pull” (2022), “Mukbang” (2020), “Charlie” (2019), “Pleasure Bot” (2019)
