The showcase is an outcome of the project Hanoi Open (10/2023-11/2024) which encompasses nine workshop-tours interspersed with showcases exploring diverse routes of art and culture in Hanoi; together with creative mentorship and co-creation through open and mixed media. It is a group exhibition showcasing artworks (photography, painting, moving images, installations of objects, sounds, movement/dance, text, maps, performance, interactive exhibit) of about 30 professional practitioner-instructors and new practitioners who participate, co-experience, co-learn, and co-create in the workshop-tours. Together, they create an ever-renewing contemporary memory map of culture, art, heritage, people, and nature in Hanoi. The artworks come from the opportunity to reflect and respond to the city, diversifying the experiences and enhancing creativity of individuals and communities who live and work in, or visit and develop connections with Thang Long’s ‘thousand years of civilization’ – now part of UNESCO’s network of creative cities.
The exhibition is organized by Art Culture Hanoi, with the co-organization and sponsorship of Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 and Toong. “Hanoi Open: Moving Map of Memories” is supported by the British Council in Viet Nam under the program Culture Connects, whose aim is to support the development of the arts and culture sector in Viet Nam. The event also enjoys collaborations of Minh Long Wood, DAFA, MYAN Poetry & Art, Textile Linker, Heart Zouk Dance Vietnam, Hoai Vu-Bender Photography and Vạn Thiên Y.
Hanoi Open is a project of Art Culture Hanoi, a platform founded by MYAN (Bùi Thị Thu Hiền), Hương Mi Lê/mi-mimi, Nguyễn Huyền, and Trần Nam Hoàng to initiate and operate projects on education, experience, and co-creation of art and culture in Hanoi, from Hanoi towards local and international connections.
